Lasting Powers of Attorney
A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is the way to ensure that your loved ones who you trust can look after you and your health and financial affairs if you become unwilling or unable to do so.
There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA):
- LPA for financial decisions
- LPA for health and care decisions.
An LPA for financial decisions can be used with your consent or when you have lost mental capacity and will cover things such as:
- buying and selling property
- looking after and investing your money
- paying bills and arranging maintenance and repairs to your property.
An LPA for health and care decisions covers health and care decisions however it can only be used once you have lost mental capacity. Your attorney can make decisions about things such as:
- where you should live
- your medical care
- decisions about life-saving treatment.
Lasting Powers of Attorney can only be made whilst you have the mental capacity to do so. If you lose capacity then in order to assist you with your affairs, your loved ones would need to make an application to the Court of Protection which can be a time consuming and costly process.
We can help you to prepare your LPA to appoint the right Attorneys to make these decisions on your behalf and then submit the forms to the Office of Public Guardian to have them registered so that they can be used as soon as you need them to be.
Our prices for Lasting Powers of Attorney start at £350.00 plus VAT for a single Lasting Power of Attorney and £550.00 plus VAT for both a Health and Welfare and Property and Financial Affairs Lasting Power of Attorney plus the Court registration fee which is currently £82.00 per Lasting Power of Attorney application.
